 PROJECT GREEN RUNWAY

PRESS RELEASE

PROJECT GREEN RUNWAY IN MARIN COUNTY

THIS TRASHION SHOW WILL HAVE HIGH FASHION ART CLOTHING FROM

PLASTIC DEBRIS----KEEPING IT FROM THE OCEAN

Plastic waste going into our oceans and sea-life ingesting and entangling in the

deadly soups called gyres is not a very glamorous subject but PROJECT GREEN

RUNWAY will be making it very glamorous on Saturday June 16 at Marin Recycling and

Sanitary Services at 535 Jacoby Street in San Rafael at 4:00. Over 30 models ages 12

to 24 will be strutting their outfits on the Catwalk .

PROJECT GREEN RUNWAY is the creation of Artist Elise Cheval and Ecologist and

Health Educator Christin Anderson. The two of them met about 4 months ago at

Oʼhanlon Center for the arts during a Plastic Fashion Exhibit created by Cheval. They

both agreed , the public needs to learn that we can all do better for our oceans. So letʼs

make it fun and put the message out there.

Now their message is- Pre-Cycling is the way to go, by being a little more mindful, by

passing bans on plastic bags and getting our manufacturers to take back what they

create. .They also agreed to launch PROJECT GREEN RUNWAY and get youth

involved. Their mission is Creative Self-Expression, Community Collaboration, and

Youth Leadership. Some of their Community Partners are Good Earth Natural Foods in

Fairfax, Rainbow Fabrics in Fairfax, Turtle Island Restoration Project in Forest Knolls,

the Main Street MOMS in Pt. Reyes , The Clean Oceans Project in Santa Cruz ( a

company that has pioneered technology that converts plastics in the ocean or on land

into high grade crude oil), and LEAF( Leadership Environmental Action Forum) from

Oakland.

The upcycle outfits have been created by Elise and Christin as well as many local

Plastics Design artists and students from the Bay Area. We ask that you carpool if

possible , parking is limited and seating is limited to 100 people. For questions call

415-488-4702. The event is FREE , get there early.
